Port Royal is the third gated, oceanfront community and
lies at the "heel" of the Island where Port Royal
Sound joins the Atlantic Ocean. This lovely, tranquil 1200
acre/900 homesite Plantation (there are no villas), with
only permanent residents and long term rentals (more than
6 months), is known for its peaceful, preserved natural
environment and beautiful shoreline. It was on these shores
that Captain William Hilton first landed in 1663 to claim
the Island for the British Crown, and where Union troops
came ashore in 1861. Port Royal features four miles of some
of the widest Island beaches, three 18 hole golf courses,
an excellent tennis facility, two championship croquet courts,
a 16-court racquet club, an oceanfront recreation complex
with swimming pool, an arboretum and a series of historic
landmarks. Port Royal is also home to four diamond The Westin
Resort Hotel which offers first rate lodging, restaurants,
and conference facilities.
